Screen Demo vs Talking Head: Which UGC Format Wins for Apps?

July 3, 2025 · 5 min read

The default assumption is that UGC means a person talking to camera. For AI, SaaS, and app brands, that's often the weakest format available.

Screen demo

Best for products where the value is visible in the UI within 3 seconds — analytics, editors, budgeting tools, AI copilots. The product is the star.

POV / over-the-shoulder

Best for mobile apps and consumer SaaS. Feels native to the feed and lets the viewer imagine themselves as the user.

Voiceover over screen

Best when you need narrative pacing — a story, a step-by-step, or a before/after arc. Highest retention of the three when the script is tight.

Talking head

Best for personality-driven categories (creators, coaches, agencies). For a SaaS onboarding funnel, it usually underperforms all three above.
